WHAT TO DO

The person making the arrangements must be able to give instructions and make decisions regarding the funeral details. We are happy to visit you in your home or you may visit our offices to make the funeral arrangements; whichever is more convenient.

First Steps

At this point we will discuss with you the provision of cars for mourners, floral tributes, catering either in a private home or at a local hotel or hired establishment, the handling of donations, preparing obituaries, service sheets, taking names of mourners and looking after the cremated remains. We are happy to arrange every aspect of the funeral for you.

Our offices are open Monday to Friday 9.00am – 5pm however our phones (Tel: 01722 413136) are answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by one of our staff so there is always someone available to help you.

Early decisions

The early decisions which are needed are;

  • Whether the funeral will be a burial or cremation
  • Where the funeral will take place (church, crematorium, graveside or elsewhere)

Consideration needs to be given to the time and day that is most convenient for the funeral to take place. We will then liaise with the necessary parties to agree a day, date and time which meet your requirements. However, we are dependant on times available at the Crematorium or Church and the commitments of the clergy. We will also obtain all necessary paperwork for the funeral to take place.

Whether you wish to have a woodland burial or something completely different, we will go out of our way to achieve your wishes. If you know you are expecting a large attendance then please let us know so that we can advise you and plan accordingly.

Non religious services

We are very experienced in arranging any denomination of religious service and also non-religious services. Ian often takes non religious funerals himself and has much experience in this field.

Jewellery

Jewellery worn by the deceased will be removed or left according to your decision. Should you wish us to return the jewellery to you, then we will store it in our safe until you call and collect it. We do not give it to you on the day of the funeral.

Stone Masonry

We have our own stone masonry department within IN Newman Ltd and we are happy to advise on any type of memorial you may wish to erect.

A small flat tablet is usually allowed where cremated remains have been interred in a cemetery or churchyard. We have a colour brochure and related literature which we would be pleased to supply you with.

When a grave has to be re-opened and the existing memorial has to be removed for the new burial we will remove the memorial to our workshop for safe keeping. Should a further inscription be required we will be happy to quote for this work.

A Long Distance Funeral

We are able to carry out funerals out of the area and will liaise with the various authorities on your behalf. We will of course still provide a complete service.
